:( Just a quick question to prove my memory is still working.

Does anyone ( who is old enough) remember local double decker buses with the aisle down one side and the seats in long rows on the upstairs deck, or have I been sniffing too many daffodils?

My OH does, he says they were dark green and ran from Todmorden or Bacup to Burnley, in the 1950s.

:) That's a relief! I can't remember which way we were traveling at that stage in my life it was either to Blackburn,( dirty word  ) or Halifax.
I was paranoid about getting past everybody and down the stairs to get off.

Cheeky boy!!! No it was not. Now I'm going to worry about this all weekend.
Maybe it was a bus to Manchester?

Maybe I should shut up?
No comments on that one!

Hi Hannah, yes you are right these double deckers were low bridge buses the routes they travelling on all had low bridges like the bridge in Railway Street Nelson and the bridge going out of Burnley to Todmorden I drove this type of bus for Ribble they were called White Ladys
made by Leyland they had a full fronted cab the windscreen went right across the front. Cliff.

I'm afraid I can just remember double decker BCN Joint Trans Comm buses which had the door in the middle.

They phased them out in th fiifties I think, just using them by that time when they were short (of buses, not the actual buses...)

Many trainspotters had the sideline of bus spotting (yes I know it's sad). The old bus station on the Cattle Market was a wonderful place, and yes I remember the dark green Todmorden buses, and the greyish Accrington ones. I don't think Blackburn one were allowed across the border somewher near Clayto-le-moors...

Oh those White Ladies...

Hannah, I remember those buses with the aisle at the side upstairs, but I don't remember where we travelled on them.

The upstairs aisle along the side was a little lower than the area where the seats were. You had to step up on to that part, almost like a low platform.

Yes that sounds about right, it took so
long getting settled, it was almost time to get off again, and squeeze past everyone if you had a window seat!
