Dear all,

I was recently lucky enough to have passed onto me a photograph containing "The Family". The insinuation being that the photo was of those 12 siblings that made up my Grandfather's generation. This generation being the grandchildren of Sarah Kippax from Briercliffe (to keep it local!)

My correspondant sadly wasn't able to put names to the faces, but I do know that the family consisted of:

Jack (b. June 1897), Flo (Sep 1898), Willy (Jun 1900), Harold (Nov 1901), Olive (Apr 1903), Frank (Dec 1904), Walter (Dec 1906), Amy (Nov 1908), Les (Oct 1910), Dolly (Mar 1913), Fred (Jun 1915) and Doug (Oct 1918).

Now, given that photo contains 5 kids - three boys and two girls, it is more than likely going to be a run of five kids of descending age, but whether that makes it:
Taken c1904 Jack (7), Flo (6), Willy (4), Harold (3), Olive (1)
Taken c1905 Flo (7), Willy (5), Harold (4), Olive (2), Frank (1)
Taken c1909 Harold (8), Olive (6), Frank (5), Walter (3), Amy (1)
Taken c1911 Olive (8), Frank (7), Walter (5), Amy (3), Les (1)
Taken c1914 Frank (10), Walter (8), Amy (6), Les (4), Dolly (1)
Taken c1916 Walter (10), Amy (8), Les (6), Dolly (3), Fred (1)
Taken c1919 Amy (11), Les (9), Dolly (6), Fred (4), Doug (1)

Is all quite unclear. I'm not even sure what the ages of the kids in the photos are likely to be (as I'm not that 'up' on kids, as I don't have any myself!). Any advice on this issue would also be gratefully appreciated, as well as what people think of the dress etc. of the kids...

For further hints, I've attached a collage containing the youngest photos I have of each of the Brays. Not that I think it'll age much in identification, but have a go if you're good at that sort of thing!

Is there a photographers name on the back of this photo? If so, you could check the trade directories to see what year the photographer was at a particular address. This might confirm the year that the photo was taken.

Leaver - what a cracking suggestion! I shall ask the person who sent me the scan and see if there's anything there to go on...
