Just wondering whether anyone has access to the marriage mentioned below.

First, the preamble...

As you may remember from previous postings, Sarah Kippax (b.1826 at Briercliffe) left the area for Holmfirth c1840 and then moved to Liverpool with her husband c1868.

Now, both Sarah and her husband died on the same day in January 1879.

It seems likely that Sarah’s family travelled down from Burnley to attend the funeral, for that is where John marries his mother’s niece (via her brother, Joseph Kippax 1812-1878) the 26 year old Mary Kippax (bc1853) a month or so after his parents’ death. After the marriage, they moved back to Vine Street, where John continued his career as a book keeper.

The only reference I have for the marriage is "March 1879 Burnley". Has anyone stumbled across the actual marriage reference at any particular church? If so, I'd be very gratified to know the actual date and/or witnesses!

Stephen

Hi Stephen,
I have found two Kippaxs married March qtr 1879 Burnley
John Kippax vol 8e, page 268
Mary Ann Kippax vol 8e, page 288
It was really difficult to read the 8e it could possibly be 8c, and John's page 268 could possibly be 288
I have found another Mary Ann Kippax in the June qtr Burnley vol 8e page 311

Gloria,

Oops sorry. Should have specified that it was John Bray who married Mary Ann Kippax. Hence the second record is right.

I was just wondering whether anyone (yourself?) had a transcript of this, or even knew which church I should be checking...?

Sorry I don't have it Stephen, but if you send for the marriage cert it will give you that info on there. Must be worth a punt, as they say in Lancashire
