As you know, I'd like to add transcribed church records to the site. I am aware that there is more than just Haggate Baptist Church, St James and St Peters in Burnley.
Can anyone provide the names of other churches that the residents of Briercliffe would have used and where I will find the records so that I can make a list of what is where and cross it off when done.
Burwains and Foulds had, I believe, religious connections. Would any records survive for these?

A lot of mine used St Bartholomews in Colne, that was before Haggate and Hill Lane. They are transcribed in book form, and also on film/fische.
I go to the records office Preston, but they would certainly have them at Colne library.

Thanks Gloria, that also answers a question in my tree. I had found a record at St Barts but wasn't sure enough that it could be the one I was looking for as I thought St Barts might have been too far away to be used by my family in Briercliffe.

Mel, some of my people attended St. John's at Worsthorne. It was consecrated on September 20th, 1835. Records are at the Lancashire Record Office: Christenings 1835-1960, Marriages 1843-1977, Burials 1835-1879 + M.I.s.

The Pendle and Burnley branch of LFHHS has information about some local churches and their records on their website www.lfhhs-pendleandburnley.org.uk/

I've found it invaluable.

Joan

Doubtful, but not impossible, it would have been quite a trek.
I have found a few of mine christened by the minister from Hillgate Tabernacle in Stockport. He used to travel about doing them, on the same page were christenings from around east lancs and west yorks.
I initially found one of them on IGI and thought it couldn't be him so sent for a copy of the page, and it was right.

Mel, would St. John the Divine at Holme-in-Cliviger be a possibility for Briercliffe people?

Excellent news Gloria.
Have you any idea if Holme-in-Cliviger would be a possible venue for Briercliffe folk in years gone by?

I'll stick it on the list then, it won't be a priority though.
