I'd be interested in any information about a strike in the 1930's.
And about one of the co-owners known as Dodie Mason.

I have found this Sue on the Times website but it doesn't mention specific mills.
The Times, Tuesday, Jan 06, 1931; pg. 9; Issue 45713; col D Weavers' Strike Stoppage At Nine Burnley Mills, A Lock-Out Decision

I am still looking but that was one of the first to appear.

It seems they did go back to work after about 3 months in 1931 but I am now finding reports for 1932. The strike seems to have only have affected Burnley, there was one mention of Bradford but then no more.
Now I have dates from The Times, I can get copies of news from the Burnley library.

Sue, have you noticed that John Robert's MI was amongst the Halstead MI's on the deaths topic?

Gloria - when you ordered news reports from Burnley, were they specific dates you requested? What info did you give?

John Robert died in the 3rd quarter of 1932.
Lots of strikes already but they have returned to work, there was yet more talk of strikes in July 1932. I wonder if this is the one Sue?

Mel, when I asked for the reports of the Morecambe Bay disaster and the death of the grandmother and granddaughter, I gave all the info I had. Both instances I had the dates and places of death. They also did a root for me to see if there was an obituary for the g.mother and g.daughter over the following couple of weeks, but they didn't do them then. They are really helpful.

Thanks Gloria, it willprobab;y have to wait now until we get back from France. Mind you, there is a 5 or 6 day postal strike now so nothing will get through yet anyway.

Sue, Dodie 's real name was George.
You might find this link interesting http://www.oneguyfrombarlick.co.uk/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1417&FORUM_ID=21&CAT_ID=9&Topic_Title=Where+is+Stunstill%3F&Forum_Title=Questions

The first few messages are probably irrelevant but the topic turns to Kings Mill and Dodie.

Certainly looks likely! My dad cannot recall how long the strike had been on before JR was fired....just that Lizzie (who was engaged to Dodie's nephew, Willie Mason, at the time. Atta girl!) and Ed had walked off with the others. Minds of their own, those Halsteads!
