Victoria Terrace. My current project is to collate all the named Burnley terraces past and present. The Briercliffe Society "you tube" "Postcards" shows a Victoria Terrace. Can anyone tell me where this particular terrace is located.

Victoria Terrace, Stoneyholme, off Holme road (overlooking River Calder),
Burnley.

Thank you Gloria. There was a Victoria terrace in Rectory Road but none of my old maps show a terrace so near to the Calder as seen on this Photo. The bed of the Calder is paved so I think we are in the right area. Is it possible to give me a map reference from the "Mario" Lancashire maps site.

I can find Holme Rd on old maps---1913/1914 enhanced zoom. Near the top in the centre, to the left of the word Stoneyholme is Holme Road. It is in a corner formed by the Calder and a tramway. Hope this helps, for some reason it won't let me do a link to it.
Somewhere on this site there has been a query about this area but I'm not sure where it is. But, I am pretty sure the area is now under the M65 junction.

Thanks again Gloria. The 1905 Barretts directory gives Holme Road as 2 to 40 even numbers and possibly on the return "Victoria Terrace" (1 -12) then odd numbers 19 to 1. I'll just have to find the right map.

To Gloria. The 1910 O/S Godfrey map shows a row of houses below Abbey St. I think this is the terrace I'm after. Thanks for your help.

If you look on the later oldmaps 1978-1990 one, it shows Holme Rd as still being there. And, it is still there on bingmaps, and some of it is still there on google earth.

A bit more information to look at http://www.lfhhs-pendleandburnley.org.uk/blyaddr1.htm
It may be worth getting in touch with the Pendle and Burnley branch of LFHHS.

Hi,

It was the row below Abbey Street and is marked on the 1960 - 61 map on http://www.old-maps.co.uk . Type in the coordinates 383559 and 433238 and when it loads choose the above map from the list on the right hand side and zoom in.
Use the enhanced zoom.

Good luck with your project.
