The Ex-Angle St: Baptist Chapel (near Duke Bar Burnley) originally displayed a broad band description across the front of the Chapel that has been totally blanked out except for the date 1877. Does anyone know what this lettering was? And has anyone a photograph before its removal?

It said, in Capital letters, 'BAPTIST CHAPEL' (No surprise there then !)

There is a photo in the 1928 Jubilee booklet. It's a bit dark, I needed a magifying glass to read the inscription.

The booklet should be in Burnley Library.

Thanks Rex
I will certainly have a look at the library. A young lady (78) is adamant that it read "Angle St; Baptist Chapel" she is trying to dig up a wedding photo for me. The banner space is long enough to hold this inscription. A this point in time I'll go with your photograph.

Rex You are right. The photographs at the Burnley Library confirm what you said. "Baptist Chapel 1877"
