I only found this forum this morning and so far have pushed one of my lines back by one generation: Jennet Nicholl back to Adam Nicholl and Margaret McNeill; and another back by three: Joseph Stanworth back via Benjamin and Henry to William. Thank you so much.

Gloria, it looks like we are very distant cousins! I am descended from Joseph Stanworth, son of Benjamin.

In your Stanworth list of names I see that you have Joseph b 1795 Unknown.

I did my research some years ago and it may take me a little while to track down where I found this information but I appear to have some additional detail for you. My records show:

Joseph Stanworth, born/baptised 1798/99 at Extwistle, Lancs

Also today, I have put up a longer response to a posting about Jennet Nicholl, including my female female femal line descent from her and her husband Joseph Stanworth.

I was truly thrilled to find all the research that has been taking place around my Lancashire ancestors. I was born in Colne but left aged 15 and now live in London.

Ruth

Hi Ruth,
very pleased "cousin" you have added to the forum, I will have a look at my Stanworths tomorrow and add anything new I have found. They aren't a family I have looked into of late, so I tend to forget what I have.

Sadly, it is time for me to come clean and announce that I am not after all a distant Stanworth cousin. The Stanworth link I had found was through Alice Whitaker whose father John Whitaker married Margaret Stanworth whose father was Joseph Stanworth.

However when I did my original research 20 years ago it was less obvious quite how many Alice Whitakers and John Bannisters there were in the area. Having found one Alice Whitaker and John Bannister marriage that fitted for date and place it never occurred to me there might be another! It turns out I am descended from Colne and Trawden Whitakers and not Briercliffe ones.
