If OPC is to be believed, two of my ancestors husband and wife James and Mary Burrows died on the same day 9 9 1801 and were buried in St Barts Colne on 11 11 1801. They were both in their late seventies. Does anyone know if there was a particularly nasty epidemic about that time. She was listed as the wife of James which suggests he was alive when she died. Pity death certificates weren't issued then.

I'm not aware of any epidemics around then but can you tell whether the numbers of burials around then seem particularly high?
I'm a bit intrigued by the dates. Would they really have left a dead body lying around for 2 months before burial? Doesn't bear thinking about.

The burial should read 11.9.1801. I did note that a younger Burrows died of smallpox on 10.9.1801 but that doesn't make an epidemic and I would have thought living to be late seventies they would have built up some immunity to that type of didease.
