If OPC is to be believed, two of my ancestors husband and wife James and Mary Burrows died on the same day 9 9 1801 and were buried in St Barts Colne on 11 11 1801. They were both in their late seventies. Does anyone know if there was a particularly nasty epidemic about that time. She was listed as the wife of James which suggests he was alive when she died. Pity death certificates weren't issued then. |

I'm not aware of any epidemics around then but can you tell whether the numbers of burials around then seem particularly high? I'm a bit intrigued by the dates. Would they really have left a dead body lying around for 2 months before burial? Doesn't bear thinking about. |

The burial should read 11.9.1801. I did note that a younger Burrows died of smallpox on 10.9.1801 but that doesn't make an epidemic and I would have thought living to be late seventies they would have built up some immunity to that type of didease. |
