 Post subject: Move to Blackpool

I am interested as to why so many of my family moved from Briercliffe to Blackpool. I assume it was when the mills were closing but am curious as to the attraction.

This is something that interests me too. My great grandparents made this move after the end of WWI

Perhaps they all just went for the 'fresh air and fun' – as in the old 'Lion and Albert' monologue (but let's hope without suffering any similar misfortune).

I think, because Blackpool was often the holiday location of choice, that those who had been there...and had the oomph to uproot and move to a dream location, did just that! In my family my great uncle, Edmund Halstead, simpy didn't want to work in the mill like his dad and siblings forever. He got a job as a chauffeur for the Blackpool T
Tower limo....and never looked back!!
