I have received the marriage certificate of my great great grandparents which shows they were married at Angle St Baptist Church and not Haggate as I had previously thought.
I can find very little information about this church which no longer exists. Does anyone have any ideas or information? It could be the place their three children were baptised at.

Thanks, Jeanette

It's quite possible Jeanette. It's not a million miles from Briercliffe.

It was an offshoot of Haggate. Burnley Library will probably have information, there was a Jubilee booklet in the 1920s I think, 50 years. I've got a copy somewhere, I'll dig it out if you like later when I have more time.

I have a contact who's a baptist minister. He tells me that, if it's marriage records you're looking for they should all have been returned to the Registrar when the church closed.
If it's baptism records, many baptist churches don't keep them as they do adult baptism and churches only keep their records on a voluntary basis. Some do keep a 'cradle roll' with details of dedication services for children (apparently a bit like an anglican christening without the water).

Thank you everyone.

Rex - it would be great to see a copy of the booklet when you have time. Would you be able to scan it?

My dad seems to think that his grandad, Robert Thornton, was a lay preacher but all the records I can find show him as being a cotton weaver. I wonder if he was lay preacher part time.

I found the booklet, a bit long to scan really. I'm sure as aforesaid Burnley Library will have a copy.

The only THORNTON mentioned is John, as an early attender, c. 1869 to 1880.

The booklet is indeed a 50 year Jubilee of the actual chapel building, 1928.

My minister friend tells me that, amongst the church records held at the LRO there is a list of past and present members (1913-1951) and baptisms - which will be adult baptisms - 1869 to 1951.
I checked the national archives web site and these didn't show up so I'd suggest that if anyone was thinking of going to look at them they ring first and make sure.

Rex, would you mind having a look if there are any Sutcliffe's in your book please.

Jeanette, did you ask at the library?
