:?: Anybody any ideas, have found a burial at St Barts but the abode is listed as Marsden Chapel.

Where is or was it it 1800, was it a chapel that didn't have a burial ground?

Not very sure Hannah but could it be St John with St Philip http://briercliffesociety.co.uk/Grave%2 ... arsden.htm or St Paul? http://briercliffesociety.co.uk/Photo%2 ... arsden.htm

I seem to think there is another in Marsden too. Can Colne or Nelson library help?

Much detail in Bennett's History of Marsden and Nelson.

It's St Pauls, the others are 19th or 20th century. First building thought to be c. 1500, rebuilt 1809. Originally independent of Colne, even though Marsden was in Colne chapelry (of Whalley parish !). Later dependent on Colne St Bartholomew. For much of its history used only sporadically.

No separate register until 1811, earlier events recorded in the Colne register. There are burials from about this time.

On Halifax Rd, Nelson, by junction with Hibson Rd. (See Googlemaps if need be.)

Thanks Mel and Rex,

I suspected it might be that but needed 'others' opinion. So if they lived in Marsden they would go back to their roots for a baptism and later transfer to St James in Briercliffe when it was built and are buried there.

All coming together for a change :)
