I looked last week at Burnley Central Library for transcriptions of the Haggate Burial registers, there is a roll of microfilm that starts in 1930 and transcripts in book form for the 19th century, the burials that I want occured in 1922 and 1927. Does anyone know if the registers for this period are available either in book form or on microfilm?

Thanks for trying Mel, maybe the registers were in a poor state and weren't legible enough to be transcribed!

The records were definitely in Burnley Library a few years ago. My G.G. Grandfather was buried at Haggate in 1924 and I got the details from the Burial Register, I also have the M.I. but this has a different reference. They should have the burial records from 1857 to 1976. I don`t think they were transcribed so they are either on Microfiche or film.

There should be an A4 lever arch file on top of the filing cabinets in the library. This contains a list of all the parish records they hold, what form they are in and the reference numbers to find them. If it is fiche, they may have been put back in the wrong place! It`s then a case of searching the whole blooming drawer.
