Anybody know where the name of this little place near Settle, originates from?

It doesn't sound like a Viking name, can't find the word on the internet.

From Place Names of the West Riding, part VI. Clapham township.

'Fech's shieling' [a shieling is a hill pasture, or a hut on this]

'Fech' a personal name from Old Irish 'Fiach' (with an accent over the 'i' !)

The book covers the three furthest NW Wapentakes (Hundreds, roughly), so let me have any more queries. I haven't the other volumes, though Yorkshire libraries should, of course.

Thanks Rex, it is only a tiny place, on a walker and climbers route, but there is a place to eat there which I would give a 5 star rating, off the beaten track but well worth a visit.
