Anybody know where Ingham would be on the 1951 census?

My ancestor Betty Whitaker ( maiden name Smith) had parents Benjamin and Betty

The address of Ingham appears as one of the houses where some of the family lived, could it be a farm?

Try having a look at the pages either side to get an idea of where it was Hannah

:) Cockden is the previous one and I missed the occupation of the head of household, yes it says farmer with nine children all at home.

I suppose it is a ruin by now as I don't remember seeing it on any childhood walks.

Thanks Mel

There is Ingham House Farm down Blackhouse Lane.

I knew about it, but it is also mentioned in Roger Frost's book A Lancashire Township.

"Ingham's" can be found on the 1848 OS 6" map of the area:

Zoom in on Haggate. Cockden is a little to the south-south-east and Ingham's is more of less due east of there.

:D Thanks for the map, found my Inghams.

It's a very useful map as well for other hunts.

There seem to be no end of helpful people on this website, name and it's found

In Barrett's Directory of Burnley 1879 and 1881 census--Kippax James, farmer, Batty Hole, which is next to Ingham House--he was my 3xgt grandfather. You get a good view of them on google maps

Hi Hannah,

There are lots of other maps available at http://maps.nls.uk too. Just click on the "find by place" link. You can zoom in on the map, locate a town or village using the gazetteer and select the map series. Then click one of the shaded rectangles to see what's available.

The one I gave you is from the OS six-inch series, 1848 edition. There are later editions in that series available, and some one-inch maps too.

You are a mine of Info. It is nice to know that even so far away in Germany you are still part of us in Briercliffe.
