Not in Frost's book, nor in my census place name indexes.

In what document did you find it ?

There was a surname of Fennycoates/Fennycotes in Briercliffe.

Randall of Fennycotes? if that helps

I came across this name too, as had Ray, I think. However it is very early, around the time that surnames were coming into use, and indeed becoming hereditary. As such then, a name like 'John of Lincoln', for example, could be found elsewhere than Lincoln, and 'John Lincoln', when the surname had become settled, could live anywhere (as today !)

So Randall in Briercliffe may have a connection with 'Fennycotes' elsewhere.

Hope that is clear !

Rex
