Wandering round Marsden Park as one does on a nice summers day I came across this plaque which I couldn't find any reference to on the usual internet sources. Located in the now termed 'Marsden Lodge' it had been used to fill in an old window space that once looked out between the lodge and the Hall. Oval in shape and about 30" long. The inscription on it had been painted and is now largely undecipherable.

My guess, which could be totally wrong, is that it was associated with the family of Richard Thomas Wroe Walton. The coat of arms possibly being a quartered Banastre from Altham with the plaque itself referring to a Parsonage. But equally it could be a Blacksmiths shop. Any suggestions

The lodge which the plaque is on, the doctor for Marsden Hall lived there and his name used to be readable

I have worked on the parks department for 30 years

you are correct with your guess of Walton family connection

Thanks Martin, The fact that it was tucked away in the passageway between the two buildings made me suspect that it had been retrieved from a parsonage and relocated as a souvenir of what his family had founded. This is a total guess and basically I don't know how it arrived there.
