 I may have asked this in the past, but , fresh input might spot something I have missed.

I have a John Thistlethwaite M. 20th Nov. 1783 to Ann Sharpe widow in Newchurch in Pendle.

He was aged about 27 and she was 50

This makes his D.O.B about 1756?

I can't find a family that have a son that matches this man's birth, I'm trying to find his place of birth and parents but I seem to be missing something perhaps when I look???
Anybody spot where I'm going wrong?

Hi Hannah,
I have found their marriage on ancestry under parish records, but it does not give any info, where did you get his age from? Could it possibly be a mistranscription and he is older?
I will see if I can find a birth of an older John.

One of the witnesses was a Geo. Thistlewhite which could possibly be Thistlethwaite so I looked for his details thinking he may be Johns brother. These are what I found. Not answering your question but may give you another slant on things.

Thanks Gloria, yes I have found George, my 5xgt grandfather, his father was named as John in Rylstone Church, but we have never been able to trace the family any further back.

The John who married Ann, was given to me by another helper on the site. They had married at shortnotice ( 2 days) by special licence and her age was given as 50 and his as about 27.

Can't find them before Newchurch, am hoping he is my Georges younger brother and they 'eloped' to be married where they had a relative who supported them.
If I could find John's birth and if his father was called John, I would be a little nearer finding where they came from.

Tried to find Ann Sharp's wedding, but drew a blank. If they lived near each other I would have the village maybe.

He is not buried in Newchurch but an Ann Thistlethwaite died there aged 90, so where did he die and when.

It is a total blank wall I keep coming across, can't get past it :x :

Is it posible to check other people in her grave? Could she have been buried with her first husband?

I have found a lot of mine were buried at Wheatley Lane even though life events took place elsewhere.

Good idea Mel, will check if she was local.

Does anybody know the date when birth death and marriage cert. were first introduced? There may be a clue on there, but knowing this lot, I'm probably out by a few years

Found the original document for the marriage on Family Search!

Intended marriage of John Thistlethsoait age 28 to Ann Sharpe widow age 50.

Cheshire Marriage Bonds and allegations 1606-1900??????? Does this mean the original documents are 'somewhere' and would have more info about the happy couple on them?

1837.

I believe, though cannot say for sure, that Cheshire archives are helpful. That said, some material was moved to the LRO so it may be worth contacting them to see if they have the marriage or can perhaps point you in the righ direction.

I ass ume there is nothing on the lan-opc? (I'm on a tablet and searches with this are not the easiest!)

Thanks Mel, I will have a go at that.

I found a John T on family search born in the right year in Kirkby Londale, but John T is a very common name where as George seems a bit rarer

which have helped but of course doesn't. It seems they were non conformists which could explain why the records are hard to find.
