I have just bought and read the fairly recent book written principally by Roger Frost, 'River Calder' (Amberley, 2014). An excellent read, as those of us who know Roger's other works would expect.
He makes one assertion which surprised me, saying that the book 'Picturesque History of Lancashire' (1844) was written by Edwin Waugh, the well known dialect author. This book contains no author's name, but it is usually ascribed to Cyrus Redding, or sometimes to Rev William Thornber, incumbent of Blackpool. As a substantial work, and with no author noted, it may be that it was actually written by more than one person, with someone (Redding, Thornber, Waugh (?)) as Editor.
Any information gratefully received. I could approach Roger direct, but do not have his email address, and am not sure if he still has the same (longstanding) postal address.
