I have received a relatives death certificate in the space that names place of death it reads Dick Styles Nelson the year was 1900.Does anyone know what this place could be. Sues

What does it show for the registration district?

Portia ,the Registration District Burnley, Sub District Nelson he was 69 years old and a retired weaver his grandson was the informant and his address was White Bull St Burnley.

There is no mention of it in the History of Marsden and Burnley.

Sues, what is the name of the deceased, and what was the date of death?

I received a reply from Christine at Nelson Library,she told me that Dick Styles was probably a small farmstead off Barkerhouse Road Nelson. In the 1851 census it was down as Dick Steels its was on land that subsequently became the Marsden Park Municipal Golf Course on the 1947 os map that was attached it was called Dick Stiles.I will now try and find out who lived there.

DICKY OR DICKER DERIVATION

There’s an old saying, ‘up dicky meadow’ meaning in trouble and a less used one ‘in dicky cormer’ meaning the same thing.

Found this quote:

So,looking at the map Sues it was Dick Stiles but just spelt incorrecctly and not Steels or Styles.

Dick Styles on the certificate Dick Steels on the 1851 census and Dick Stiles on the os map just one letter makes a difference. Stanley is a fountain of knowledge. I will email and thank him.
