I'm noticing that members of my family, PROCTOR and HEYS lines, all got baptized in groups. In April 1854 a family of Proctors, at St James. The year before, a family of Heys had taken the plunge. In both cases, ages of the children ranged from fairly young to mid-teens.

Might there have been religious revivals?

Remembering my LDS history, they would have been active around that time, but these folks did not join them. Perhaps there were other groups preaching?

A story: My grandmother, born 1901, and her siblings were warned, when they misbehaved that if they didn't stop "the Mormons will come and get you". This was in Briercliffe. Does anyone know if the Mormons did go up Syke?

There was certainly a Burnley branch, at around this time (I haven't papers with me just now). The Mormon Library site will tell you the dates for which the Branch membership records are available, on microfilm.

One of my WATSONs was a member of the branch (Levi WATSON and his wife, he was from Briercliffe), 1840s.

I've also many on my mother's side, in Middleton.

Generally it isn't uncommon in registers, particularly perhaps nonconformist ones, to find a number of children baptised all together : parents might just be rather lax, or would have children rebaptised if they shifted their allegiance from one group to another. So it doesn't need a 'revival' especially.
