David I know this might seem outrageously far fetched but it looks like something you might see on a train engine. Could it have been attached to a train serving the cotton mills? God Speed ....

Could it have been on the front of the boiler, they used to put similar things on the front of trains.

I tried ringing them David but it seems they don't open till march. I s'pose I could try wrining to them...
Alternatively if I get 10 minutes to breathe on Monday I might ring the Burnley Express and ask whether they have alternative contact details.
The items aren't identical but there seems too much similarity for it to be pure coincidence.

Whilst the mill is closed to the public Maureen I think that there are usually staff there at some point during the day. Next time I go down the road I will see if I can catch anyone and ask for a contact number.

Have just got back from Queen Street Mill where I managed to catch the Assistant Keeper, a lady called Catherine Pearson.They are busy getting things ready for opening for the new season in a couple of weeks.
She showed me the plaque in question and said that they had already seen the web site that you found and she said that the table thingy had been sold.
She also said that a man called Parker who had some family connections with Extwistle Hall had brought in a smaller cast plaque which had been made into a trivet, This plaque was of a similar type but had different wording on it.This gentleman thought that the plaques were made locally,possibly in the Daneshouse Road/Royle Road area of Burnley. The mill are currently looking into this to see if they can find a foundry in that sort of area.
I told Catherine, Maureen that you had found the plaque on the web and that you may like to talk to her,she said that she would welcome your call.Her contact details are as follows:

Mel- Catherine said that she was planning to contact the Briercliffe Society with a view to hosting some sort of display or exhibition at the Mill. This would be a great venue to maybe have a small permanent exhibition for the society as they get a vast number of visitors and it is on the increase.I told Catherine about the web site and she is going to look at it.
