Roger Frost made a tribute in Fridays Burnley Express to Edith Holgate.

Members of the Briercliffe Society, and the wider Briercliffe community, were saddened to hear of the death of Edith Holgate, a founder member of the society but known, over a wide area, as one of our very best dialect poets. The society published three volumes of her work and Edith recorded a cassette and a CD all of which have been appreciated by lovers of the Lancashire dialect. What is less known is that the proceeds of the books and recordings all went to charitable causes.

She loved the countryside and, when she was able, she enjoyed nothing better than a day walking Briercliffe's many beautiful footpaths. Edith will be much missed and the society would like to send its condolences to her family.

Stephanie.

That's sad. I think Roger was talking about Edith at the last meeting.

Condolences to Ediths family and friends.

Not sure, I can't think how the conversation started but he had mentioned her and I was asking if she was someone I had met as there is another lady who doesn't very often make it to the meetings. She hadn't been to a meeting for quite some time so I had never met her. She sounded like an interesting lady.
