I have been sent this from another family history group and thought it would be of interest to the people on here.

The following message appears on the Lancashire Record Office's website:
http://www.lancashire.gov.uk/corporate/ ... geid=30539

Potential closure
Over the spring and summer of 2011, there will be major work carried out to replace large sections of the heating and ventilation plant at Lancashire Record Office. Although a detailed timetable is not yet available, there are early indications that it may be necessary to close the building totally to public access for at least some of the time work is in progress.
Any closures will not take place before late March at the earliest, and indeed may not occur for several months after that. However we felt it appropriate to give as much advance notice as possible to anyone planning to visit the office, particularly if they would be travelling a considerable distance. Information will be update on the website as it becomes available, and we should be able to give more detail by early 2011.

If you are intending to visit and think your visit may be affected, please contact the Record Office by email record.office@lancashire.gov.uk or by phone on 01772 533039 ( if phoning from the within the UK ) or +44 1772 533039 if from overseas.

Thanks Gloria. I had heard rumour of this. Will check the website before any potential trip.

I have been sent this through LFHHS yahoo group forum-----

The following has just been issued via the Federation of Family History Societies

----------------

The following information has been received from David Tilsley, Archivist at Lancashir Archives.

Lancashire Archives will be closed to the public from 4 July until mid- October 2011. This is due to essential plant replacement and the installation of energy-efficient lighting throughout the Record Office building.

There will be no direct public access to archives or local studies material during this period, but we will continue as far as possible to answer postal and emailed enquiries and to supply copies of documents. There may be some unavoidable delays in responding to enquiries as strongrooms and documents may be inaccessible for brief periods.

More detailed information about the work being carried out can be found on our website, and there will be regular updates about our progress. As soon as we have a firm date for re-opening we will post the information on the website.

You can get in touch with us by email at record.office@lancashire.gov.uk; by post at Lancashire Archives, Lancashire Record office, Bow Lane, Preston PR1 2RE; or through our website www.archives.lancashire.gov.uk

We apologise for the inconvenience this will cause but look forward to welcoming visitors in the autumn.

David Tilsley
Archivist | Lancashir

I'll give it a couple of weeks before I go. The good thing is I can get there in 20 mins or so, so I can get in early and grab a machine if I want one.
