I've spoken to my Mum, it was about 1950 when her Aunt, Ada Lawson (nee Sutcliffe) lived there. Ada and her husband Tom lived with his sister Sarah Ann Brown (Otherwise known as Aunt Seran). Ada and Tom were in some kind of outbuilding. I think Aunt Seran is buried with her parents in St James. Ada (& Tom?) are buried at Wheatley Lane Inghamite. Ada died in 1977.

Hi All
Have just received a reply from the bereavement services:
Burnley Crematorium opened in September 1958.

Yes, that feels late, doesn't it, we take cremation quite as the norm these days. My grandmother, who lived and died (1947) in Burnley, was cremated in Rochdale, I have the certificate. But I think the tea after was at Burnley Coop !!

Perhaps then my grandfather, who survived her, was quite progressive in this respect.

Maggie, would you mind looking up any Greenwoods or Shackletons at St Peters. I would be most grateful.

Glenys

I will be more than happy to look for any Greenwoods or Shackletons but there are about 3 pages of Shackletons and 6 pages of Greenwoods. Could you give me any names or times you are looking for.
thanks

regards

Yes, primarily I'm looking for Sarah Shackleton or Sarah Greenwood died 2 October 1862 Burnley Lane. Wife of Robinson Shackleton. Aged 30.
Thankyou very much.

Sorry Glenys there is no Sarah Shackleton or Greenwood buried on that date. There were two infant children called Robinson Shackleton who died in the late 1830s and who lived on Rodney Street Burnley but no adult Robinson. Are they perhaps buried in Burnley Cemetery?
Please let me know if you need any more look-ups and good luck with your search.

regards

Good luck Glenys with your search. I have been searching for ages to find where my grandparents were buried. I bought the St Peter Indexes - no luck, I emailed Susan from the Bereavement Services to see if they were in Burnley Cemetery - no. Then this week I discovered that they are buried at Padiham Memorial Cemetery with a grandchild. So keep looking and hopefully you will find their resting place.

regards
