For the first time ever, findmypast.co.uk has launched a collection of records that relate to an entire city. The Manchester Collection provides an insightful snapshot into what life was like in the city of Manchester.

The records in the collection provide information about apprentices, cemetery records, industrial school registers, parish register transcripts, prison, school and workhouse registers.

Introducing Find My Past the TV show

We're very excited to introduce Find My Past the TV show, a new 10-part series from findmypast.co.uk. The show starts on 20 October 2011 at 9pm on the Yesterday channel: Freeview channel 12, Sky 537, Virgin Media 203. Chris Hollins of BBC Breakfast, Watchdog and winner of Strictly Come Dancing 2009 presents the show.

Each week we help three members of the public to discover how they are related to someone from a significant historical event, by searching the records onfindmypast.co.uk. We follow the participants' journeys, before uniting them to reveal how they are linked.

Every Friday morning, read all about the previous night's episode on findmypast.co.uk, including which records were used to chart the participants' family histories.

Three of the episodes in the series will focus on significant events in WWII: Dunkirk, Battle of Britain and D-Day. We're building an online collection of photos to honour our heroes and we need your help. Share photos of your ancestors who were connected in any way to Dunkirk, Battle of Britain and D-Day with us and be a part of this fantastic tribute to our heroes. This feature will be available very soon on our Facebook page.

We hope you enjoy watching Find My Past the TV show.
The findmypast.co.uk team

Chris Hollins was talking about this yesterday morning on BBC breakfast. Sounds quite interesting and a different take to that of WDYTYA.
Unfortunately I forgot all about it last night but hopefully Yesterday will show many repeats of the program (it'll be s*ds law that they won't repeat it!)

Have you watched it yet? What did you think?

I've got it on now and my initial thought is that an hour program could be condensed into 30 minutes...they could very easily cut out all the recaps they do after ad breaks.

Not keen on Chris Hollins as a presenter for this type of program but not sure who would do it better. His voice just seems too....not sure what word would descibe it but he sounds like a schoolboy reading his homework out to the class.

Seems very disjointed but it's nice to see everyday folk like you and I featured instead of celebs, it's worth watching again for that alone!

Just watched it and I agree it is very repetitive and could probably be condensed into 30 mins.
I didn't care for how they mixed the people up, one minute they were discussing one persons ancestor and then went straight onto another ones, a bit confusing at first.
Still the content was quite interesting but it was as you say, a bit disjointed.

Have you watched this weeks? I found it far more interesting. We all know the story of Titanic but I think it's the first time I've really heard the first hand accounts of those who survived. I found it particularly interesting knowing the part that each of these 3 played and not just the fact that they suvived.

Yes, I watched it and found it much more interesting. I do think however that they haven't got it linked together as well as it could be. It seems a bit amateurish----IMHO---as they say nowadays.

I suppose it is very new Would the fact that it is being streamed on Yesterday rather than one of the more main stream channels suggest that it is more of a pilot type program and a trial to see how popular it is before throwing more money into it?

Not yet watched this weeks but I've just read that next weeks will be connected to Jack the Ripper. Sounds interesting
