I've been told that Ancestry are offering free access to the 1911 census. I've just gone to the site and did get a pop up saying free access but delving further, it's possibly just the index that has free access. I don't have tiome to go into further until later this morning unfortunately.

From LFHHS yahoo forum

For anyone who is interested, and doesn't already know -- a whole lot of Parish records for the Manchester area (including some from a few Bolton, Tottington, Rochdale and Rossendale churches) -- have been published on the Ancestry site.

These can be accessed easily by clicking 'View all new records' in the centre of the Home Page screen.

Ancestry has lots of photos of original birth/marriage certs/parish records online now. They haven't done them all but I have found quite a few of mine.

Are these ones that members have posted? I've found some that I never bothered to send for as I already have the vital information from them. But they're nice to have if you don't have to pay for them

No they are the actual ones. Do you have a sub to ancestry?

I assume you mean the parish records they did the deal for with Preston. It's great to see so much online now.

Yes Mel---It's brilliant. Saves sitting for hours at Preston and getting side tracked, which I always do
P.S. if you want me to look for someone just shout.

Yes Gloria - I've got Ancestry. I bought some credits for FMP to try it out. It does have a few things that Ancestry doesn't, but I just found the searching process frustrating. Of course it might just be that I'm very familiar with Ancestry now.

Apparently there is free census access on Ancestry during the bank holiday weekend.

Now I'm the other way. I prefer the search on FMP. I think it is a much more intelligent search function than Ancestry.
