Taken from LFHHS yahoo forum

South Ayrshire Council have just launched a new website of transcriptions taken from the Ayr Advertiser of BDMs 1803-1835

Search the archive:

http://www.south-ayrshire.gov.uk/libraries/bmd.aspx

There is a cost of £2.00 for a 7 day subscription allowing unlimited searching during that time.

(Thanks to Duncan Malcolm webmaster of Troon FHS and the SAFHS for this)

Thanks Gloria. I don't have anyone in the district but the pricing seems quite fair

I have a Jane Marshall(born c1820) on her marriage cert in 1840 Leyland Parish Church she married John Yates a boilermaker, her father was William Marshall a gardener. In 1841, 51 and 61 censuses she is born Scotland. Then in 1871 census Jane was in Scotland 106 Ardgorren St, Glasgow, with her sons Yates and Robert. They are living with her daughter Mary J and her family. Jane is a widow and "born in Ayrshire".
She died, I think back in Bolton where some of her family had gone.
So I thought £2's worth of this would be good, but have drawn a complete blank.

I suppose, given the dates, only notable families would have used a newsaper announcement service.
You could have bought a lottery ticket!!
