Fascinating stuff !

I've been doing my family history for about 50 years (I started very young...). I know all my 16 gt-gt-grandparents, and 30 of 32 gt-gt-gt-grandparents, and many further back. However in my direct tree I have no known example of a marriage between relatives. One or two siblings though are known to have married a cousin or second cousin.

As the article suggests, it will have been very different say 500 years ago or more, with communities small and largely immobile.
