1911 UK Census Online Version Adds Millions More Searchable Records
Ancestry.co.uk has finished adding the second part of the 1911 Census transcriptions. Records covering London, Lancashire, Yorkshire and 17 other counties are now fully searchable.

Unlike any previous censuses, this one provides you with the actual forms your ancestors filled in, complete with their handwriting and signatures.

Here’s a full list of the areas that are now searchable:
Channel Islands
Cheshire
Cornwall
Cumberland
Derbyshire
Devon
Durham
Isle of Man
Lancashire
Leicestershire
Lincolnshire
London
Norfolk
Northumberland
Nottinghamshire
Royal Navy
Rutland
Wales
Warwickshire
Westmorland
Worcestershire
Yorkshire – East Riding
Yorkshire – North Riding
Yorkshire – West Riding
All the scanned records are now available online with more than half of them now searchable. Ancestry.co.uk is still working on the remaining transcriptions with an expected completion date in 2012.

From LFHHS yahoo forum-----well worth the membership

It seems that the National Trust is currently working in partnership with Ancestry. The Trust is offering a 2 week free trial with Ancestry, together with a 25% discount for Ancestry membership. Part of that membership fee goes towards the National Trust.

It doesn't look as though you have to be a Trust member to take advantage of this offer (but I am not sure about that!)

If anyone is interested see the website at;
http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/shop/pr ... /ancestry/

(or google Ancestry/National Trust!)

Well it's that time of year again---my ancestry sub is due for renewal 27th July. I have been online and cancelled the renewal, it was £107. I got a good deal on it last time so I think I will wait and see if any other offers come up, if not, maybe one will come up for findmypast.

It soon comes around doesn't it. I suppose the advantage these days is that these sites are available in most archives/libraries.

Just note to give a 'heads up' on Lancashire records about to be launched online.

26th July - over 2 million baptism, marriage & burial records 1538-1986 on Ancestry from the Lancashire Archive collection. I believe it will include digitised images of the parish records.

28th July - Preston Guild Burgess Rolls - database of the 27 surviving Guild Rolls. A project was led I think by our own David Eaves. There is an event to launch this at the Lancashire Archive, Bow Lane, Preston on this date, though places should be reserved.

And just my luck, my sub runs out on 27th July so I have one day!!!!!

I may make the move when mine runs out....I've been waiting for this. 8) It's taken nearly a year though since the lady at the Astley Hall day told us! I expected it to be sooner than this really
