John and Hannah EMMOTT (nee COTTAM)

Is anyone researching the Emmott / Emmett name in Briercliffe, if so, can you please post the details?

I have been contacted by a fellow researcher who is interested in relations of Hartley Emmett b. 1786 Briercliffe

I recently discovered that Hannah EMMOTT remarried, to James HEYS (her daughter's father-in-law !), in 1832, so John must have died between about 1825 and 1832. She died in 1852. In 1841 they lived at Haggate, in 1851/2 at Cop Row.


John EMMOTT married Hannah COTTAM at Clitheroe, 8 Jan 1804

John and Hannah's children :

[all the rest have births recorded at Haggate Baptist, the family living at Haggate]

John EMMOTT is something of a mystery. His burial is not at Haggate, nor at St Peters in Burnley. Colne needs checking, also maybe Clitheroe. (Anyone have easy access ?). No obvious baptism or birth record. Hannah was from the Clitheroe area.

It is possible that John and Hartley could be brothers, John quite a bit older.

There is a Hartley Emmott (aged 15) on 1841 with Hartley Emmott (1786).
