Re: http://www.briercliffesociety.co.uk/Pho ... 20Tat1.htm

I recently purchased this postcard on ebay, and on the back it has “A. Leaver”. I contacted the seller, and it turns out she had purchased a number of postcards and photos that are mostly addressed to a Leaver family at 21 Cross street, Briercliffe. Amongst the earlier cards (July 1918) I found one addressed to a Mrs. A. Baldwin of 43 Duke street, Briercliffe.

After reading the postcards and doing some internet searching, I now know that John Leaver married a Miriam Starkie, 1907, and they had two boys, Harold (1908) and Arthur (1910) Leaver. Harold married a lady named Mary, and Arthur married a lady named Elsie.

The Mrs. A. Baldwin appears to be an auntie of Harold and Arthur, but I am not sure if she was a Starkie or Leaver or if she was related in some other way.

This is a long shot, but does anyone have Mrs. A. Baldwin of Duke street and Cross Street, Briercliffe in their tree?

Is Duke street, Briercliffe a long street?

I found this. I wonder if it was the same Baldwin family.

Duke St runs parallel with Queen St, next street higher up Burnley Rd. It can be seen here, I hope, if I have done this right.

Thanks, that’s great. That family didn’t move very far! Duke street to Cross street!

Duke Street is about 200 meters long from main road to end of the street.

I acquired a lot of postcards that were owned by either Harold Leaver (1908-1963) or Arthur Leaver (1910-1994). Arthur and Harold are the children of John Leaver (1884-1965) and Miriam Starkie (1886-1958).

Miriam Starkie (1886-1958) had a sister named Selina Maud Starkie (1876-1943), and she married Arthur Baldwin (1874-1943).

Most of the postcards are addressed to either Miriam Leaver or Selina Baldwin, both of 21, Cross street, Briercliffe.

Last Will and Testament for the people named above.

1965 – LEAVER John of 19 Kimberly street, Harle Syke, Burnley died 8 February 1965 at Victoria Hospital Burnley. Probate Lancaster 16 March to Arthur Leaver, Company Director.

1958 – LEAVER Miriam of 21 Cross Street, Harle Syke, near Burnley Lancashire (wife of John Leaver) died 5 January 1958 at the General Hospital Burnley, Probate London 19 February to Harold Leaver, Company Director and Arthur Leaver, Assistant Company Secretary. Effects £637 6s. 4d.

1963 – LEAVER Harold of 141 Marsden road, Burnley died 22 July 1963. Probate London 3 October to Mary Leaver, widow and Arthur Leaver, company director. Effects £7,429 9s.

1995 – LEAVER, Arthur of Oaklands Nursing Homes, Talbot Street, Briercliffe, Burnley died 8 December 1994. Probate Birmingham, 5 June. Not exceeding £125,000

1944 – BALDWIN Arthur of 21 Cross Street, Harle Syke, Burnley died 10 December 1943. Administration (with Will) Manchester, 19 January to John Baldwin of no occupation. Effects £714 13s. 10d.

Does anyone recognise the people in the photos?
