Mel,
I have just joined this Society so I hope I am doing everything correctly.
I want to thank you for listing the Nutters buried at Haggate. I found an
ancestor plus a picture of the headsone & I think there are several
more, but I have to check. Now I wonder if you could help me with the following:
I know that Elizabeth (Betty Taylor) Nutter was listed at Haggate also,
because I found her name on a microfiche. She was the 1st wife of Edmund Nutter, mother of John & Sarah, but I couldn't find her name My relatives are descended from Edmund & his 2nd wife, Agnes Sanderson, but I would like to climb this brick wall, since I know nothing about Betty, her parents or siblings.
Can you or anyone help me on this?
Janet

Hi Janet, welcome to the site.
Can you remember what fiche you found her on? Is it a death/burial you are trying to find and do you have a date?
I have plenty more gravestone pictures to add yet so it's possible that there are more that will be of interest to you. There are many more waiting to be taken!

If you can provide a few dates, it'll paint a better picture. If I can't help, someone else might be able to.

I have just done an update to the Haggate gravestones. I have now added all the Nutters that I have at the moment. Not sure when my next trip to Briercliffe will be.

Mel,

I don't know the date of Betty Nutter's burial, but I only have one fiche
so it has to be on that. Since I don't have a reader, I can't check it.
The fiche: Haggate Baptist Chapel 1786-1794 1811-1857.

It can be narrowed down, though. On the 1841 census, it shows Edmund
& Sarah, 5, he listed as widower. Sarah must have been born abt. 1836.
He married his 2nd wife, Agnes, on July 20, 1842.

On Lancashire BMD Elizabeth Nutter 27, death 1839. This is the only one
listed between 1837 to 1841, so this is possibly the one.
Hope someone can help me with this, so I can find out more about her.
Thanks
Janet

Janet the Haggate burials are on the main site and are searchable. If it's the Haggate fiche that you saw it on then it should be in the database.

Thank you Mel,

I believe you found it. I did look at the church records for Betty Nutter
& Elizabeth Nutter several times & it came up zero records. You must
have a magic wand. Since she died about 30 yrs before her husband,
she possibly was buried in an unmarked grave? On the different lists
I belong to people have said that some people were too poor to afford gravestones. Now I'll try finding parents under the Taylor
listing on church records.

This is a great website!!! I had almost given up hope of finding any
records at Haggate Baptist. Had even gone to Cemsearch who was
helpful in others but had no records for them.

Thanks & may your website grow & help others.
Janet

Wednesday February 10 1943

Preceded by a service at his home, 17, Milton-street, Harle Syke, the funeral of mr. Wilfred Nutter took place in Haggate Baptist Burial Ground on Monday. Aged 60 years, Mr. Nutter had been in failing health for the past eight years, and his death last Thursday came as a happy release from suffering. Born at Haggate, he previously attended Haggate Baptist Chapel and his quiet and unassuming disposition endeared him to a wide circle of friends. In his younger days he was a member of the Church Institute and was a zealous worker in its activities. Up to last summer he had been employed at Queen-street Mill as a weaver from the date of its erection. His one hobby was gardening. Mr. Nutter served in H.M. Forces during the last war in Belgium and France. He leaves a widow, one married daughter and two grandchildren. Mr. W.E. Thornber officiated at the interment. Arrangements by J. Atkinson, Harle Syke.

The Late Mrs Nutter

The funeral of Mrs. Nutter, of Parker-street, took place yesterday (Friday), at Haggate Baptist Cemetery. Mrs. Nutter, who was in her 60th year, had been in indifferent health for quite twelve months, and about three weeks ago had to take to bed. Hemorrhage on the brain was the cause of death, which took place last Monday. Between 30 and 40 years ago, Mrs. Nutter was the solo singer in the Haggate Baptist Choir during the time that Mr. Lawrence Atkinson - and later, Mr. John Foster - was choirmaster. She took the alto part at the time that her brother, Mr. John Shackleton, took the bass. She attended the Haggate Chapel until a few weeks ago.
