I'm at a dead end looking for a relative who ought to be at Haggate but aint! Can anyone suggest a good researcher that won't cost me a small mortgage who can look in the Burnley/Gt Marsden area for me?
It's vital to my research that I find her final resting place.

Have you contacted Burnley cemetery? I think they were open then.
They are very helpful.
Their email address is bereavementservices@burnley.gov.uk
I assume you have either viewed (or had someone to look) at the Haggate burial register for that year.

Thanks so much for your replies ...yes I have contacted bereavement services and as I remember it they said they had not found the name in the registers. I feel I need someone to look more indepth for me ...she has to be there somewhere born in Gt Marsden, died in Burnley.

I have ancestors in Briercliffe under the surname Taylor, Ingham whos duaghter married into the Shackletons. I therefore have quite a lot on my tree but there were many Shackletons in Burnley. Which are you looking for?

Looking for burial place of Sarah Shackleton (nee Greenwood)
Husband: Robinson Shackleton Married 1860 in Burnley
Died: 1862 Burnley

Robinson married again to Elizabeth and they are buried at Haggate

I noticed in the BMD they were married at Great Marsden St John the Evangelist ... but unable to locate this Church now?

The Church is still there Glenys though the original building has been replaced by a very modern church. We have a few gravestones on the site and I do have more to add http://www.briercliffesociety.co.uk/Gra ... arsden.htm

Also, a titbit of info for the church here viewtopic.php?f=5&t=694

Hi Mel and thanks.

Is St Johns at Bacup or Great Marsden or is this one and the same place? I notice Cemsearch have a St J the Evangelist at Bacup.

Sarah and Robinson were only 2 years married. She could have been buried there. Is it C of E?

I believe it is C of E. Bacup is a different place altogether. It's about 12 miles from Gt Marsden.

Peter and Ruth Taylor are genealogists who have knowledge of the Briercliffe area. I believe Peter’s Grandfather was the president of the Briercliffe society.

I've had a look on my fiche. (MI's for St John in Gt Marsden).
There is no Sarah Shackleton.
There was a Robinson Shackleton, son of William, who died aged 2 in 1876. Possibly related?

As these are MI's, it does not mean she is not there. They may not have had a headstone.

Have you tried Haggate records Glenys?
