He was twelve when his girlfriend became pregnant. She is fifteen now. Rightly or wrongly I am surprised the pregnancy was allowed to go ahead.

At this rate he could be a grandfather by the time he's 30.

Have you seen the picture of him? He doesn't look old enough to even be in High School. I'd be so ashamed if it were my family, they seem rather proud of it to me but then maybe that is the naivity of youth? (though surely the same could not be said of the grandparents of this baby?)

We were out with some friends last night, one of which is a social worker, and were discussing this. It happens more than we realise but not all take their story to the press.

Another thing that struck me while we discussing this. Up until the 20th century, it was legal to marry that young wasn't it. Wasn't the age 12? Did many marry at such a young age in years gone by? I can't say I have found any that young but I do have a couple of sixteen year olds, which still seems far too young!

Ther' nowt but babies themselves, I thought I was quite unshockable, but I have to say I found this to be an appalling state of affairs, nothing to be proud of whatsoever, no wonder family values are going down the pan, if that happened (God forbid) to my Grandson I would be mortified.

To add to this sorry story, it says in todays paper that there might be a question over whether he is the Daddy or not, as another boy has come forward to say he could be the Daddy, apparently the girl in question was having, to put it nicely, relations with around 8 other teenage boys at the same time  God help the baby I say.

Makes me wonder if that girl learned at a very early age that her body was a commodity...something to exchange for attention, approval, affection or to keep the peace. Such promiscuity is often a statement...or a gesture of desperation. I can only imagine her story.......
