I have managed to collect over 100 Heaps from those places around Burnley and would be pleased to share information.

I have Heaps from Extwistle. Elizabeth Heap, born 1818, daughter of Thomas Heap & Sarah (Stanworth?). She was one of 10 or 11 kids including Ruth, Rose, Martha, Mary, Thomas, John, Alice & Nancy.

This is the family in 1841 & 1851. The mother had already died before the census years.

Hi. Just joined! I think this means something to me! Except I thought the parents were Thomas Heap and 'Mary' Stanworth - just wondering why you think the mother's name is 'Sarah' Stanworth?
Not had a chance to check any census.
Have just discovered I had Heap ancestors in the last couple of days.
My g g g grandmother was Mary Heap born 1805 Extwistle daughter of Thomas. Thanks for this information.
I will post any Heap information I have when I am sure the details are correct...don't want to lead people astray!

Don't worry about posting info you aren't sure about, as long as you say that, people can pick out of it what they want.
I have Stanworths and will have a look to see of there is a connection.

It is marriage that makes me think the mother is a Stanworth Mimi.
7 October 1802 at St Peters in Burnley. This marriage is on the IGI but I have confirmed it at source.
Just not 100% sure if it is Thomas, the father of Elisabeth!

Hi Mel.

On the Briercliffe BMD site I found a marriage between a Thomas Heap and Mary [not Sarah] Stanworth, both of Extwistle on October 2, 1802 at St Peter's Burnley.

There are listings of the following births on the Briercliffe BMD with parents Thomas and Mary Heap:-
Mary 1805 - which I think is my ggggrandmother and Sarah 1807 both Hing Heys, Extwistle.
The rest were born Holden Clough, Extwistle:-
Alice 1810; Martha 1812;John 1814;Thomas 1816;Betty 1818;Rose 1823;Ruth 1825.
All registered at Haggate Baptist Chapel.
The only ones I couldn't find on the Briercliffe BMD and who were present in the census you found are Nancy and Joseph.

My ggggrandmother Mary married Robert Procter in 1822.She wouldn't have been present in the census you found. She went on to marry William Crooke in 1844 and her father is listed as Thomas Heap.
She also was certain about her date and place of birth in all census that I found her in [1805 Extwistle] - and with the names that occur in her family and the tradition of naming that occurred in her offspring - and with the fact that she and her daughter cannot be found in C of E records [only when marrying] - anyway, what I am saying in a very long winded and confusing way is - I feel that this is the family I have been searching for!

This should have been Mary, not Sarah. My mind must have been elsewhere when I typed this!

It looks like our 2 families connect with the Heaps then Mimi. Betty (Elisabeth) married my 3xGt Grandfather, Robert Sutcliffe in 1842.

Hi Mel. This is fantastic. I only found out last Thursday that I had Heap ancestors. It's a long story, but, one particular ancestor - my great grandmother Mary Sarah Nowell had been causing me particular grief. She seemed to have disappeared from her birth in 1855 until her marriage to my great grandpa William Sutcliffe Sagar in 1877. Until I noticed an entry for a Dean family in Burnley in the 1861 census that was really messed up by the enumerator and looked like it could have possibly been my Mary Sarah Nowell! Anyway to cut a long story short - with a lot of detective work and chasing wrong lines I found that Mary Sarah Nowell was born to Ann Dean late Nowell nee Procter who was born to Mary Crooke late Procter nee Heap. Ann late Nowell nee Procter had married John Dean in Burnley in 1857. So the entry in the 1861 census should read 'Mary Sarah Nowell' but the mess means it has been transcribed as anything but that!
This finally led me to finding Mary Heap's father of Thomas...so Thomas Heap is my 4 times great grandfather.
I am wondering if you have any further back than Thomas and Mary [nee Stanworth] Heap.
I have a little information on Mary Heap, at the moment. I have found her in a couple of census. In the 1861 she is living with her daughter, Ann Dean's family at 22 Master Street, Burnley.

I've never tried to go further back with the Heaps Mimi. My interest has always been with the Sutcliffes. My line can be found on the family trees page, Robert was the son of William Sutcliffe who is the head of that particular tree.
