"John Barleycorn" is an English folksong. The character of John Barleycorn in the song is a personification of the important cereal crop barley, and of the alcoholic beverages made from it, beer and whisky. In the song, John Barleycorn is represented as suffering attacks, death, and indignities that correspond to the various stages of barley cultivation, such as reaping and malting.

Throwing two balls up against a wall so that you only have hold of one at once. You throw them under arm, over arm, under your legs all doen to silly rhymes.

We had to make our own entertainment in those days Mel, no computers, nintendo's etc, we were always playing outside, come rain or shine

I grew up outside Stephanie. Computers were only just about on the market when I was young and they were not something that interested me.
It was the era of the ZX81, my brother had one but it baffled me at the time.

I used to love skipping, my dad used to bring ropes home from work. Ours was a fairly new street so maybe 10(ish) young families all moving in at the same time. We all played together. We'd see how many people we could get skipping along the line at the same time with different ones running in and out. Thinking back, we would not be allowed to hang around in such a large crowd today. There was at least 20 of us.

We were always toppling up against walls and walking in the crab, with our skirts tucked up our knicker legs, the lads and lasses played together, but we also had seperate pastimes, the lads and some lasses liked to climb the lampposts and hang from the post at the top, also leapfrogging was very popular, and spinning around and around until you made yourself dizzy, all great fun.

I used to love climbing trees. When I look at the trees I climobed now, I cringe. Is that age creeping up on me?
