Hi Mel, we don’t have this Sarah in our file (unless Portia has been doing overtime). I cannot find anything for Sarah Leaver in the IGI records either.

OK, no problem. At least I broke a long-standing wall :D (although it was only a little wall, it was not stopping me from getting anywhere)

I bet this is the death for Sarah -

Lancashire Death indexes for the years: 1838
SUTCLIFFE Sarah 31 Burnley Preston BU/1/89

Jun 1838 Sutcliffe Sarah Burnley 21 136

I'll add it to my list and look for a burial at some point.

Kris & I think we've found the Sarah Leaver, shown on our tree as Sally. Am I right in thinking that Sally is a diminutive of Sarah?

Thats them Kris, they are still at Yeomans in 1861 and 1871.

Parents, William & Sarah Sutcliffe both die before the 1861 census and are buried at St James. Their daughter, Sarah, moves back to Yeomans following their deaths and becomes head of house. In 1871 there is just Sarah and 2 brothers, William & James. She then dies before the 1881 census. William and James both die during the 1880's. One of them (James?) dies at Catlow and the other goes to stay with his neice and dies there in 1882.
I do not have access to my file at the moment to give more specific detail.

14 year old Ellen on the 1841 census is the Ellen on this stone. http://www.briercliffesociety.co.uk/Gra ... Pickup.htm

Yes Maureen, I think Sally and Sarah are the same

Yes, Nancy died, 1812, and Thomas was remarried to Sally Whitaker, 7 March 1815 at St. Peter’s.

I don't have any further details Gloria. I've seen the marriage register and it didn't specify fathers' names at that time. This is all I have:
Church Records, When – 16 November 1797
Where – St Peter’s Church Burnley
Groom – Thomas Leaver of this chapelry
Bride – Nancy Thornton of the same
Witnesses – Robert Hartley & Thos Crossley.
I don't think Kris has any more but I can't ask him just now as he's escaped. Not for long

Have bumped this topic up as Kris added a marriage that is already listed here.
It's the first post on page 4 of the topic.
