Congratulations Jack Halstead on receiving your medals. Long overdue I should think.
May I ask what the star is (set above the medals) ?

Glenys

Congratulations Jack, not before time you had these.
And well done Kris for helping out.

Thank you! He will be tickled by your interest in him!
Glenys, the badge is one of the ones on his collar in the photos. The other one and his cap badge have long gone missing.
Handsome fellow, eh?

Jack made it into his local newspaper.

Thanks Sue for sending a copy of the article.

Thanks all...I will pass on your messages.
A few factual errors in the article...including that he certainly didn't become a Canadian Citizen - ye gods! After a long bureaucratical struggle he finally was accepted as a Permanent Resident (Landed Immigrant) and - finally - eligible for medical coverage.
It burned me up that he wasn't covered by his UK medical insurance nor the Canadian...wasn't eligible for any assistance from the British Legion nor from the Canadian...not eligible for any supplemental income from either the UK nor Canada (even though paying taxes here)....Grrrr!
I never in a million years would have thought that every last penny of his hard earned and saved money would be given to the government of my adopted country which rejected him for so long as a resident, (ageism is alive and well, I'm sorry to say!)...for emergency medical/surgical care and subsequent nursing home care.
Good job his daughter inherited his persistence and backbone.....!!
