In my search for my Whitaker ancestors I have found on your Census, details of my gt.x4 grandmother as a widow age 62 living at Fineymorefoot. I have tried to logically follow this clue and looked on ancestry.com for her and her husband on the 41 census, but no result. Anyone any tips as to where I have gone wrong? Hannah Whitaket is there but without husband Wiliam, so they should be around on the 41?

Did you try the Whitaker and Whittaker?

Tried everything, with a librarian who knows the system, do people get missed off the census?

It was probably transcribed incorrectly.

Please provide the following information for Hannah Whitaker.
Full name at time of birth
Year of birth
Place of birth
Year of marriage
Name of Husband
Place of residence in the 1851 Census.

In the 1851 census, is Hannah living with anyone with an unusual name? If so, it might be easier to do a search for this person.

Assuming I looked at the correct family in 1851, I would think this is them in the 1841.

HO107/506/15 folio 24 (or 25?) page 3
Foot, Briercliffe with Extwistle

Hanah Whitaker 48 Weaver Y
Margret 20 Weaver Y
Nancey 18 Weaver Y
Marey 15 Weaver Y
Martha 13 Y
William 11 Y
Hannah 7 Y
Anne 2 Y

:P Yes this is the correct lot,but you have uncovered yet another child Ann, I found John ,born 1838. Now I need to find a way to find their grandfathers roots. William poss. born 1790 :?: I am assuming they were all from Briercliffe, but would Colne possibly be an area as opposed to Burnley, that they could have come from, would it be nearer :?:

Colne is quite close to Briercliffe and a lot of mine were married/christened at St Bartholomews, Colne.

It could be either Burnley or Colne. I have people from Briercliffe going to both.

I seem to remember Sue saying that if they were at neither of these, try Cliviger (or was it Clitheroe?).

If it is Cliviger, I may have roots in the Holme? and related to the priest who was hanged at Preston at the same period as the witches :?: Probably not tho' can't find anyone interesting in my various relatives.

Keep digging, it took me 8 or 9 years of serious research before I stumbled on anything of interest and then I was inundated with interesting stuff. One suicide pact, one murdered by his wife and one hanged for murder!
