GOLDEN WEDDING
On Tuesday Mr and Mrs John Halstead, two well –known and respected individuals, celebrated 50 years of married life, when they gave a party to their three sons, son’s wives and grandchildren.
Their ages are 75 and 71 respectively. Mr Halstead has been connected with the old Haggate Joint Stock Co. almost from its formation in 1856. For a large number of years he was a regular attendant “On ‘change” at Manchester. Mrs Halstead is perhaps best known and respected amongst the members of the Haggate Baptist Chapel, being one of the oldest members

Is this John Halstead and Mary Hartley who were married at St. James Briercliffe, 1852?

Sorry I can't keep up with all the threads going on on the site!

On the 22-2-1902 written extracted copy of the 4th March 1852 marriage certificate it says marriage solemnised at Briercliffe in the parish of Whalley. no mention of the church's name
Married in the church of Briercliffe by william Spooner Horle (looks like)
Robert Taylor (occpn Farmer) signed as father to John Halstead
John Hartley (occpn Twister) as father to Mary Hartley
Witnesses were Thomas Taylor and Nanny Taylor

This copy was obviously obtained for their golden wedding celebration.
I am trying to trace this Robert Taylor, so far no success, any info gratefully received

This would usually mean St James the Great.


This confirms that it is St James, the name is William Spooner Hoole. I think he was incumbent for many years. There are one or two news articles about him on the site.


Have you looked in the church records on the main site? St James records are there from the church opening to 1900 and there are also some Haggate records, up to about 1820ish I think. http://www.briercliffesociety.co.uk/Chu ... ecords.htm
