Lancashire Evening Telegraph:

Yates's in Burnley is a Grade II listed building which is about 200 years old and used to be called the 'Boot Inn'. An old boot set in stone is still located outside the pub.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Looks like another old building going to be lost, I do hope that something can be done with this building that stands in the centre of the town. Surely if it is a listed building 'they' wont be allowed to demolish it will they? Hope that it does'nt get turned into something tacky either. They are closing it due to lack of trade, which they blame on the No smoking ban. Stephanie.

Grade II (Grade Two): These are buildings of special interest, which warrant every effort being made to preserve them.

3 PROTECTION

3.1 The fact that a building is listed as of special architectural or historic interest does not mean that it will be preserved intact in all circumstances, but it does ensure that the case for its preservation is fully considered, through the procedure for obtaining listed building consent.

Lets hope it can be saved!

I would have thought Roger would be fighting to preserve that.
Everybody in Burnley remembers "Boot", it was well known to be a "bit" rough.

Good to see that this has been taken on by Wetherspoons, and is about to reopen as The Boot again. I wonder if Roger will do a piece about it in the Burnley Express.

That's good to know. Wetherspoons seem to be everywhere these days!
