Ada's grave is described as Grave 8 vaults 1 "Chapel Front". Can anyone describe for me roughly where this is?

Kris, do you have a list of who else is in this grave? I know James & Sarah Jane's infant son James is there but I think there were more.

Maureen, I think I have an email about this, so I will get back to you, but off the top of my head, I think it was a double grave with Richard Clarkson (1856-1926), Margaret Sutcliffe (1858-1943) and others. The Clarkson grave is located at Haggate. As you enter the gates, the grave is in the front row on the left. There is no headstone but there is a stone border with the grave number.

Maureen, I cannot find the email, but I think I have a letter from the lady who does Haggate burial lookups. I will get back to you.

Sorry Mel - I meant to say Haggate. Blame it on anno domini.

Thanks Kris. I'm just hoping to make some links out of it bbut you probably already got there some time in the past.

Hi Maureen, I cannot find the original letter, but it is definitely a double vault grave:

John Leaver (1852-1904) - Grave 8 vault 1
Margaret Clarkson nee. Sutcliffe (1858-1943) - Grave 8 vaults 1 and 2
Richard Clarkson (1856-1926) - Grave 8 vaults 1 and 2
Elizabeth Clarkson (1880-1883) - Grave 8 vaults 1 and 2
Ellen Clarkson (1884-1884) - Grave 8 vaults 1 and 2
Eva Clarkson (1893-1894) - Grave 8 vaults 1 and 2
Frank Clarkson (1897-1898) - Grave 8 vaults 1 and 2
Edgar Clarkson (1900-1900) - Grave 8 vaults 1 and 2
Lizzie Broughton nee. Clarkson (1905-1969) - Grave 8 vaults 1 and 2

I suspect John Leaver’ (1852-1904) first wife, Mary Sutcliffe (1855-1884) was also interned in this vault, but according to Renee Halstead (Haggate church secretary), there is no record of this.

Richard Clarkson (1856-1926) was James Sutcliffe’s (1868-1929) business partner. They started Sutcliffe and Clarkson cotton manufacturers, Wiseman street, Burnley.

1926
CLARKSON Richard of 225 Coal Clough-lane Burnley died 24 July 1926 at Grove House Barrowford Nelson Lancashire Probate London 3 September to John Clarkson cotton manufacturer and James Clarkson cotton manufacturers clerk. Effects £7,500.00

1943
CLARKSON Margaret of 2 Piccadilly road Burnley widow died 28 January 1943 Probate Lancaster 26 February to John Clarkson Company Secretary and James Clarkson Cloth salesman. Effects £634 8s. 7d.

1970
BROUGHTON Lizzie of 18 Carlton Road Burnley died 24 November 1969, Probate Liverpool 8 January. Effects £1,040

1904
LEAVER John of 61 Brennand Street Burnley died 30 June 1904 Probate London 15 October to Halstead Leaver taper-sizer and Ann Leaver widow. Effects £193 12s. 7d.

Thanks Kris.
I think I've got some records mixed up somehow - I also have Ada Leaver but it wouldn't make sense. She was only Margaret Clarkson's niece.
Also I thought James Leaver (1923-1923) was in the same grave as Ada but now I look again my notes say Plot 3, Grave 36 "North".

Is this the same as you have?

Maureen, in my notes Ada Leaver (1879-1928) is also in Grave 8 vaults 1 "Chapel Front". She would be buried with her father, John Leaver (1852-1904).

James Leaver (1923-1923) is in Plot 3, Grave 36 "North". I’m not certain where this is, but perhaps it is near to his father, James Leaver (1884-1936) who is in Plot 30, Grave 56 "North New".

It would be interesting to know if anyone else is buried with James Leaver (1923-1923).

The church secretary is: Renee Halstead. I will pm the other information.

thanks Kris - maybe I'm not losing it completely after all. I'll try to get in touch with the church secretary and see whether she can help
