Old Duke Inn, Burnley, unlikely to reopen as pub

The Old Duke Inn, Briercliffe Road, closed in January and, according to property agents, will now probably not reopen as a pub.

No Gloria, The Old Duke is further up Briercliffe Road, it is quite close to The Baltic Fleet pub, on the same side.

Oh right, I know where the Baltic Fleet is.
Hasn't the Duke of York closed as well? I used to go in there for lunch sometimes years ago, and in the Snug Cafe at the top of Barden Lane.

THE SNUG!!!! I remember that, but had forgotten the name, the pie and peas was the best I ever ate.

The cafe bit was upstairs and the meals came up this food lift type of thing. Really good food, at least that was my memory of it.

No, going back even further! We lived on Thursby Rd and if I was lucky, and mother hadn't had time to cook, I was sent down , with a bowl and a tea towel, to keep them warm, for the pie and peas.
Eeh lass! it was safe for me too go to the shops around there in those days, after dark!
Now you can buy 'anything'!! around there!!!

But I do remember them hiring the room upstairs for 'Funeral Teas' bury them with ham type of do.

Why have we all gone nostalgic?

Well it can't possibly be age can it?????

Mmm? Can't we call it later family history research. OK! I give in and admit it's this age thing I've heard about
I'll be raambling on about @jack Moore's monkey at Easter and the Empire Theatre, they can't pull that down!! I went to see a panto with my grandad who got seats in the 'God's, so whatever was happening on stage was a tiny dot to me and of course later, back row, films!!! Somebody stop me, or I'll go on forever.

I wouldn’t want to live in a flat with a road either side of me. Imagine the noise. Anyhow, Duke Bar has become a multicultural experiment which has gone wrong.

It's a real shame Kris, I grew up in the Duke Bar area, but it is beyond all recognition now, it makes me sad when I pass through.

It makes me sad as well, and I never lived in the area. Duke Bar is an extension of the slums of Peshawar.

My Grandma also lived in Duke Bar (19 North Street, 13 Nicholl Street and 17 Holbeck Street).
