I am a descendant of several old families in the this area of Lancashire, including the Hartleys, Viponts, Halsteds, and Midgleys. I have a birth date of 24 Aug 1603 for Jane/Joana Halsted who married Edward Vipont/Vipan of Bolton by Bolland. This date coincides with the date of birth for a Jane dau. of William Halsted of Hieridyhalghe 24 Aug 1603 recorded in the Burnley Parish Register. So far, I have come to understand that this is Higher Ridihalgh. I am trying to find out which Halsteds were in this location. The Ridihalgh family must have held this place as there are estate records between 1493 and 1578. In 1565 Halmote records there is a mention of a William Halsted of Ridehalgh who married Margaret, the daughter of Alice Smith (somehow related, I think, to John Smith of Briercliffe upon Hill.) Burnley records state that a William Halsted had a daughter, Margaret in 1579. And in 1567 a Margaret Halsted is buried. I seem to be missing a generation. The following seems consistent:1) Jane dau. of William Halsted of Hieridyhalghe 24 Aug 1603,2)Anne dau. of William Halsted of Highridihalgh 01 Mar 1604, 3)William Halsted of Hieridehalgh bur. 24 Apr 1607,4)William Halsted of Highridihaugh in Brearcleff 31 Jul 1632. The register has this marriage:3 Jun 1600 William Halsted m. Anne Aspden which date-wise and naming pattern is good but there is no location given for either. I will appreciate any observations.
