Pickings From The Burnley Press

Some ten days ago the visible muscles of the inhabitants of the good old town of Burnley were called into action, by the announcement of an auctioneer's having on sale "an excellent milch cow newly calven; but still more was the gravity of the ton disturbed when, during the late discharge of circulars for the fashions , a respectable draper, &c., announced that "an active boy (was) wanted as an apprentice in the shop, also several to the millinery and dress business."
