1 orange
5 tbsp Grand Marnier
50g caster sugar
2 dark Terry's chocolate oranges, seperated into segments
85g unsalted butter , softened
3 eggs , separated
284ml pot double cream
140g rich tea finger biscuits

TO SERVE
142ml pot double cream , lightly whipped
grated dark chocolate or chocolate curls

1.Line the base and sides of a 1kg loaf tin with cling film. Squeeze the juice from the orange and mix with 3 tbsp of the Grand Marnier. Cut away the bitter white pith from inside the orange shell, then cut the peel into fine strips and boil it in a covered pan with 300ml water for 20 mins until soft. Add the sugar, then simmer uncovered for a bit longer until you have a soft, sticky peel.

2.Melt the chocolate over a pan of water, then take from the heat and beat in the butter and egg yolks, followed by the rest of the Grand Marnier.

3.Whisk the egg whites until they hold their shape, then whip the cream until softly stiff. Fold both of them into the chocolate mixture.

4.Spoon 5 large tbsp of the chocolate mixture into the tin, then dip the finger biscuits in the orange and Grand Marnier mixture one by one and arrange over the chocolate layer - don't soak them too much or they will fall apart. Scatter over some of the sticky peel, then spoon on another 5 tbsp of the chocolate mixture.

5.Carry on layering up the biscuits and chocolate mixture until you have 4 layers of biscuit, finishing with a chocolate layer. You should only need to use half the peel. Lightly cover with cling film and freeze until ready to serve. Freeze the remaining peel separately.

6.To serve, take the cake and orange peel out of the freezer no more than 1 hr before serving and strip off the cling film. Top with whipped cream and the remaining peel, and scatter with the grated chocolate. Keep chilled until ready to eat.

This is sitting in my freezer right now. Really easy to make but a lot going on with all the whisking and fiddling with orange peel.

Will let you know how it tastes tomorrow night....friends joining us for a meal.

That sounds really good, might have a go at that one for Christmas, not that I don't like Christmas pudding but I feel like a change this year, that's as long as I can actually get to melting the chocolate oranges without eating them first, they are my favourite, one of my son's has always bought me one for my birthday and Christmas for year's since he was little, I didn't get one one year, was most disappointed!

THEIR NOT TERRY'S, THEIR MINE!!

I don't like Christmas pudding. If this goes down well tonight, I will make it at Christmas.

I don't like Terrys Choc orange either....particularly dark chocolate! I have used 1 dark and one light and, as I had no Grand Marnier in, I used Cointreau.

Can't wait to cut this tonight.

Wow! What can I say!! There is a pic of the pud (not the one I made but the recipe I used) here http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/5043 ... .offset=20

Guests were very impressed. Taste was amazing and not as sickly as I thought it might be though one slice is enough. That means that we (Lyndon & I) get to eat the leftovers tomorrow

I will be making this again at Christmas I think....looks very professional!

My Grandson would love this, as he is a chocoholic (when his Mum & Dad let him) I will have to give it a go.

FINALLY I managed to get some dark chocolate oranges. You can't know how difficult it's been. So my task for tomorrow night is my first attempt at this recipe.
Of course it won't last till Christmas - himself will cut a big chunk out on the pretext that it needs to be road tested before I inflict it on my guests. Damn! Should've bought an extra two oranges cos I know I'll have it all to make again come next week

Must admit, dark choc orange have been scarce this year. I don't use dark choc orange. This year I bought Tesco's own milk choc orange segments and a block of dark choc. I made it last weekend and it now sits quietly in the freezer....unknown to hisnibs. Not that either of us have been up to sampling it this week.

I've been a lot ick. Something worse than man flu
I'm over the worst but got no energy. I put the dishwasher on yesterday for the 1st time since early in the week and had to sit down for an hour afterwards!
Hoping to find a bit from somewhere today but don't think it's going to happen. Took pup for a 5 minute walk at 6:30 and I'm still sitting here thinking about putting the kettle on. Not moved since I walked back in the door

Think we've got that Mel. All I want to do is sleep but I can't sleep for coughing. On top of everything else at this house---not good.
