He would probably have been born out of wedlock and given his mother's surname.
I have a Catlow somewhere in mine, will have a furtle and find it.

I did some research on this family in the belief that Herbert Catlow and Susannah Salisbury’s children (Ethel Blackburn Catlow, Evelyn Blackburn Catlow, Margaret Blackburn Catlow and Nellie Blackburn Catlow) were related to my 3x gt. Granddad Blackburn Catlow (born 1811), but so far I have been unable to prove this and I don’t know why Herbert and Susannah gave a middle name of “Blackburn” to all four children.

My question to you is, can anyone find this family in the 1901 Census?

Hmm, could be. How far away is Trawden from Pendle Forest?

Trawden is the other side of Colne to Nelson. Pendle Forest would have been a large place and Trawden on the outskirts of it, on the edge of Boulsworth Moor.

I'm sure Kris already worked this one out but for the benfit of anyone who may be curious, "son to head" should read "son-in-law". John Leaver married Joseph Catlow's daughter Elizabeth 24/3/1860
