Hi,
what a great forum! Just stumbled upon the society pages whilst searching for info on Briercliffe.

It seems like my Dent family ancestors came from the Burnley and Briercliffe (Mustyhaulgh?) area.
There seems to be a long line of stonemasons.

I've some previous work to go on which my Auntie did many years ago. I've been able to match this up with work
other people have done and it's coming along nicely.

I've got as far back as James Dent died 1835 (according to my aunt) though I also have him down as 1801-1886, no more information on him
Married to a Mary?

The only child I have found they had is James Dent born 1823, died 1914 (or according to my aunt 1897.) He was married to Elizabeth Murphy in 1851.

I'm interested in anything to do with them. Especially James Dent and any gaps that can be filled in.

Many thanks,

Mike Dent
Lancaster, UK

Hi Mike,

We're from the same Dent line. I've replied briefly to your private message but I'll look out more information.

Hi
ON the disc of burials for St Peters Church Burnley there is a burial for Elizabeth Dent aged 19 June 1835 of Musty Halgh
and a burial of James Dent aged 49 16 July 1835 of Mustyhalgh
also Margaret Dent infant buried 20 Sept 1828 of Mustyhalgh and on the same date
Mary Dent aged 41 of Mustyhalgh
William Dent aged 28 11 June 1838 of Mustyhalgh
On the IGI there is a marriage of James Dent to Mary Chaffer in Burnley 1809,which ties in with the dates of birth for chidren born to James and Mary, which are also on the IGI
Hope this helps
Gilly

Hi Gilly,
yes indeed it does. Thanks for this information!
So would this indicate that Mary Dent died during child birth of Margaret Dent?
Thanks again.

Yes, Gilly, this is the same family. James Dent married Mary Chaffer at St. Peter's, Burnley, on 28 December 1809. Mary died in 1828 after the birth of Margaret, their ninth child, and they were buried together.

Elizabeth, who died in 1835, was their daughter, and William, died 1838, was their eldest son. According to the Monumental Inscription at St. Peter's, William died in a quarry accident at "Hack Gate," while supervising his workmen. I haven't seen it, but the information comes from Roger Frost's book.
