This address keeps turning up on census searches for the leaver tree. It doesn't seem to show on any of the old maps on the internet, although I do recall spotting it on a map in burnley library recently.
to save me having to go back to the library, can anyone tell me roughly where it is in relation to extwistle hall?
Is anything else at all known about it?

Its shown on a map on page 77 of "A Lancashire Township" and described-

" they stood on the south side of the footpath which led from Tattersall Barn to Walshaw Farm and perhaps a hundred yards from a building which stood on the site of Walshaw Mill. This was Coalpit House which in 1841, was divided into two cottages one of which was occupied by James Nutter, who was described as a "coal miner". Two years later James was still living there and remained a " collier".

Looking at the old map in the book, Coal Pit House appears to be opposite Cop Row on the other side of Burnley road and on a lane that led to the old Haggate Colliery in the Walshaw area.

I'd be dangerous with a brain.

I managed to obtain a hard back ,signed first edition of Roger's Book on E Bay 2 weeks ago,it is in mint condition and thought I was very lucky to get it for £52.
What made the transaction even better was that I was able to collect the book, as the seller was a bookshop in Todmorden, a 20 minute drive from Briercliffe for you non locals.
I can highly recommend the book to any one interested in the Burnley area and particularly Briercliffe and Extwistle,it is a mine of information as Mel said.

No Gloria, I didn't get to look at it, I was too busy talking to him and then we got gently thrown out for after-hours gabbing. Maybe I should spend the next meeting hiding at the back reading the book.
